The Marines, Gay, and Having a Life Partner.

Yep...so...I want to be a Marine, but with that wonderful 'dont ask dont tell' policy, I cant have a 'wife' (even if I get married in a different country, they dont recognize it) so... I cant sharing housing benefits or family health care, and have to work my ass off to hide it from my recruiter. It sucks, because I'm making plans to be with her..and my life dream is to be a marine...(damn thats so butch sounding, I'm so subbie/femme sometimes its funny to pop out and be like, 'Oh well you have to adjust this wire in your car and make it do such and such better' or 'you should really wax your car because the sun is eating away the paint' *sigh*  no one EVER listens to me when i tell them to wax...God I hate that, stupid notherners. The sun is like 50 times worse in florida people, the ozone is a giant hole over florida and it will kill your paint job.

That has nothing to do with the marines or being gay at all. nope.

Uh..so yeah
Marines dont want you to be gay. It sucks. Talk about military and gay things ? or opinions?

The military is just like any other part of American society. They believe that being homosexual is a choice. To them, it's a horrible and disgusting choice, so they want their soldiers to keep it hidden. That doesn't change that if you're found out against your will, they publicly broadcast it to the entire country, though.

Don't ask, don't tell, indeed.

now that is another reason that i say people in this country are stupid. the hypocrisy and hate is over powering, so much so that only 4 of my friends know that i'm open to a homosexual relationship. (i've never had one and i don't find myself really attracted to guys, but if i was it wouldn't bother me)

They publicly broadcast you being gay? Really? Wouldn't they want to hide it or something?

They do broadcast it. if they find out they'll discharge you and there would most likely be a hearing before that though I'm not an expert on the actual policy. I did some fact checking on wikipedia and according to the page here from 1994-2005 11,082 military personel were discharged under the don't ask don't tell policy.

in my opinion the don't ask don't tell policy barely counts as a comprimise yes they can't investigate but that doesn't protect against accidental discovery and it means significant others of homosexual personnel can't get benifits as was previously stated.

For the military it's all about image and unfortuantely thats one of the many reasons being a profesional soldier sucks right now. i'm not saying I don't support professional soldiers it's not their fault but It's all politics unfortunately.

I am actually about to join the Navy, and, due to my oh so active love life (twas sarcasm) that stupid DADT policy won't be to important for me (at least right now). Nowadays, the only real objections within the ranks are coming from the old guys who should be retiring soon anyways. Good news though is that President Obama has apparantly agreed to be rid of the fowl little beast should the paperwork get to his desk! We all just have to get it past the House and Senate for him to sign it! Yay!

Well I'll be glad when that thing is history personally... how does denying the soldiers rights give them the respect they deserve? They all made sacrifices to protect us. Even tho I disagree with the war and wish it would end thats hardly the fault of the solidiers.

The thing that really bothered me about DADT is that pretty much says that, while in the service (that would be in 6 year incraments for me), all homosexual personnel cannot conduct a homosexual relationship...uh..hello?...the staight servicemen and women CAN have their relationships. That means, at year 4 on the carrier, me and all my straight single sailor friends go to port somewhere and they all get their prostitutes or incredibly short flings in town while I sit by myself and twiddle my thumbs unable to say why I don't go hunting for a peice of man-meat for my very own. Stupid policies.
