The Writer's Strike...

Well, over the course of this time, my dad has told me stuff he's heard from his friends who are script writers for play or TV shows or something or other (Dad's an actor on the side), and I basically got it pretty down pat what has happened and why.

Basically, the Producer's contract with the WGA (Writer's Guild of America) expired, and time to make a new one! However, first, residuals are icky. Second, They don't get paid for internet streaming of shows. Producers claim "HAY IT'S PROMOTIONAL =D" and that they earn nothing from it, when they really do earn money from it.

Just read an article from someone on GaiaOnline, and it's hinting at the end of the strike...

While it's not officially over yet (Check towards the bottom-ish), as they all now have to vote to agree on the contract, the numbers who already voted yes give a good idea.

Also, note, SAG (Screen Actors Guild) will have their contract up soon too. Hopfully this won't cause issues again, and producers will offer up a similar or identical contract upgrade as the one to the writers, since similar problems are in the SAG contracts.

... and as a note, OMG I forget if my dad is in SAG or not. D> I wish I could remember.

Well, maybe you can explain why the writer's strike was renewed yesterday then...

It was? xD Didn't hear that. Sheesh, I guess the Producers and the Writers are not compadible with one another. xD That and the Directors. I think they're in the war now too. Eh, soon enough they'll have to do something, Actors join up in June, due to the same issues with their contract. It's not going to be pretty.

I'll have to ask my dad later. xP

The fact that he's got some jobs now is kind of a sign that it might be over... I think. Since stuff has to be written, and if no one writting it, then no need for the actors... and domino effect, domino effect. Yeah. Iunno. Have to ask.

And as a side note, when I think about it, he prolly does have a SAG card. Which will make that way fun. =D

EDDEET: Asked my dad. He says that basically what's going on right now is that they still have to agree to the contract. The deal is OK'd, they need to sign the contract and all is well. In actuallity, The Directors, the second group in the strike, got this deal first, as apparently, Directors > Writers. When, if you think about it, no writers, no need for directors. D< Anyways, so the producers think more highly of the directors and got them a good deal. They gave a similar one to the writers. They have to accept the contract, and all shall be well. Hopefully.

Actors guild is up next, as I said, and they'll prolly be given a similar agreement as well. Hope there's not more fuss.
