Ok i am excited to see people like Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat being popular these days, if you noticed i feel like they use their voice in a different way then most the music in the past in present.. They use their voice as .. The melody? They don't let the music track be hold the tune to the song... They step past the back ground and the easy note to note stuff. Jason mraz and Colbie Caillat both use their voice from all sides of the piano, like they can start low and get to extremely high tones in a heart beat.. I love how this type of music is, it takes a more skilled singer to be able to sing like this :]
I know you may be thinking that is weird but i mean.. They don't let the music be the melody of the song, they let their voice be the melody.. if that makes any sense.. P:
Do you agree? Disagree? I love all opinions :]

You introduced me to this music and I really love it and how different it is. I feel like they're actually singing about what they want and not just to sell records.

Ah, I've always been a fan of Jason Mraz, and Colbie Caillat sort of worked her way into my head. Though I think, if anything, they're not doing anything new... more like, going back to the basics in a great way. Before everything was so complicated and trendy.
I'm not the biggest fan of their genre of music, so for them both to've found a place in many of my playlists is pretty big to me xD
What exactly do you mean by studio, Air Hump?
Oh, and have you heard of Brandi Carlile? Or Missy Higgins? They're both pretty good, you might like 'em. If you don't mind poppier songs, Butterfly Boucher is cool, too.
As for my opinions on what I like and don't like in music... well, I'm pretty passive on everything. Everyone's doing their own thing for their own reasons. Sure, I may not like Hannah Montanna or Katy Perry personally ( though, Katy Perry's music is at least pleasant to my ears ), but all I have to do is not buy their CDs.
I think a lot of today's rock music ( more specifically, the bands people call 'emo' and such) sounds the same, and it disappoints me. But if it sounds distinctive enough, and I like it, then I'll listen to it.
I do tend to lean towards less known, less popular music artists though. A lot of them wouldn't be able to sing a song by Jason Mraz, but I respect that a lot. They're working with what they were given, and they're doing a good job at it.

Oh jaex n____n you seem to have a lot of views of me n___n i loveeeee Brandi Carlile Missy Higgins & Butterfly Boucher!!
xD
What i mean by you know ... "new type of music" is how you can't fit Jason Mraz in any genre n____n he puts a different twist of style in each of his songs. i love it xD
What i mean by studio is like... Over produced.. I feel it isn't that real |:
I feel like Jonas Brothers have no control of the music they put out there, because it seems Disiney Channel have them under their grasp... at least Miley still has her real image :\
Let me say this~ ;B There are days that i may tend to like these type of songs.. I just feel like they aren't exactly the best songs to listen to.. . It is a matter of my opinion P:

Yeah. But like I said, my dislike of Katy Perry is far more personal >.> *cough* my favorite band was out in the heat of Warped Tour, sleeping in a van with bad AC... and Katy Perry had her giant tour bus with a picture of herself on the side. I'm pretty sure it was her first Warped Tour, too.
But yeah, now I know what you mean about the studio stuff.

Sorry for the out of nowhere post, but I thought Katy Perry was COVERING "I Kissed A Girl" - the original came out in the mid ninties, if I'm remembering right 'coz I'm old like that and stuff.
Also, the rest of her CD was kind of disappointing considering how catchy that song is.
