What do you read

i like reading a lot so i am wondering to hear what kind of books other people read and since there is already a lot of talk about harry potter here i just assume most people here like harry potter.
so what dou you read ?

anyway i read mostly fantasy and some books i think people who like fantasy should read are:

Green Rider by Kirstan britain
Stormcaller by tom lloyd
and the Dresden files by Jim Butcher

and there are a lot more good books but i dont see any lying around here and i too tired to really think so youll have to do whith those series...

I like to read a lot of different stuff. Most of my reading is just the novel-length lesbian literature I find online ( because I'm a broke mofo and the local library sucks ) and the genres of those go from murder mystery to fantasy. Every now and then I get some physical books.

Honestly, I've never read the Harry Potter books. I tried to get into them when I was little... and I just couldn't, so I gave up. I've been searching the house for my sister's copies though because I want to try again.

The most recent books that I've read ( physical ones ) are Possible Side Effects by Augusten Burroughs, and Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman. Possible Side Effects was laugh-out-loud hilarious, and Einstein's Dreams was very inspirational and thought provoking.

Also, I absolutely loved The Pit Dragon Trilogy by Jane Yolen.

hmmm never heard of any of those books/authors

i usually borrow books from a friend and sometimes i buy books since the library is pretty far and i dont like having to return books in time and reading online always gives me a headache.

maybe ill try the pitdragon thing : its about dragons right ???
but ill have to finish the books im reading now first and for some reason im reading 5 books at the same time.

Yeah. It's about dragons. The first book is kind of slow paced compared to the next two but Yolen's details will more than make up for that.

If you want to read a french author, I recommend you Pierre Bordage, but I don't know if his books have been translated. He is pretty famous in France but not really in others country. His writing is amazing. But his storys are always very very dark. War, lust, treason, death... His books are never funny but his style is amazing.

I'm really in to Sci-fi. Right now I am reading Peter F. Hamilton's Void Trilogy
some great Sci-fi series I recommend are

Isaac Asimov's Foundation
Orson Scott Card's Homecoming
Frank Herbert's Dune
Orson Scott Card's Ender
Peter F. Hamilton's Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained

and many more :3

Asimov is the god of Sci-fi. XD I don't really like his style but his books are amazing !!

At present, I am reading many books about WWII.
The Longest day - Corneillus Ryan
Band of brothers - Stepen E. Ambrose.

I am also reading
a biography of Jean Moulin for school,
Don Quichote by Cervantès (because I am supposed to having read it last year ^^' )
L'Enjomineur by Pierre Bordage (I'm fan)
and some Agatha Christhie's novels

In total, 6 books in the same time. XD It depens of my mood.

I'm going to have to disagree about Asimov being the god of Sci-fi. The god of Sci-fi is Scott Card followed closely by Hamilton

Oh yeah. you're right. They're both good too. But Asimov was the first writer of Sci-fi. (er... I think). So...
Well let's simply enjoy the novels. smile

i dont really like sci-fi but ive read dune which is pretty good i didnt like the second book though so i have read only dune i have all six books though. i heard ender is a really good book but i havent read it.
and i havent read any of the books major mentioned.

oooh i have a comic i wanna reccomend (it won a literature award so i can reccomend it here =P)
the Sandman comics by Neil gaiman. the comics are a bit weird cuz it partially is in the dream world and youll have to get used to the style but i really like em i read the 3rd volume some time ago and gotta borrow the 4th one of a friend.

right now im reading devices and desires by K.J. Parker the first book of the engineer triology i think its steampunk but its really boring so ive only read the first chapter.

i dont reccomend nigh****ch cuz its a really boring book ... well it has some good parts but i still quit reading and gave it back to its owner.

some other quite entertaining fantasie books are the Mercedes thompson series by Patricia Briggs and the Hollows novels by Kim Harrison. the first book of the alpha and omega series by Patricia Briggs was also pretty good.

You should read Pandora's Star if you want a Sci-fi book that you cant put down. Its one of the most amazing book I have ever read and Judas Unchained is the second half of the story. The void trilogy takes place in the same universe 1000 years after them. I think they actualy beat out Ender for the top of my sci-fi list.

Bumpity bump. Just going through the archives, replying to some old threads, raising this forum from its' slumber... It shall wake and crush us all beneath its' feet! Its' rampage will leave none alive!

*Coughs*

Sorry, sugar rush. I think I need to be put on meds.

Books I've been reading recently? Hmmm...

The Monster Blood Tattoo series. It's a refreshing original fantasy series, which does't borrow on any of the usual fantsay cliches like elves and hobbits and dwarves and dragons. It features a land inhabited by humans, called everymen by the inhabitants, and various monsters, called nickers and bogles (Don't quote me on this, but I think nickers are any monsters over a certain size.) They have a new spin on moster-hunters, too; you have skolds, who are essentially alchemists that make biological grenades, and lahzars, split into two groups; fulgars, who control lightning, and wits, who have psychic powers.

It's a brilliant read. Go buy it now. Cygan commands you.

Other series... Hmmm. I haven't really read any physical printed-on-paper series other than MBT recently. However, Whateley Academy is a good web series. It's a TG series crossed with an intelligent superhero universe... Including such things as a Supermman-esque superhero who used to be a girl and is now a boy, and a thirteen-year-old super financial genius who recently bought out Marvel, and is possibly worth a billion dollars now. He comes from a family worth hundred times that amount, though.

It's not exactly G-rated, though. It definitely earns its' PG-13 rating, although it does a good job not stepping into M-rated territory, considering Cthulhu exists there.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a forum to make active once more...

wow your doing a rather good job getting all the old topics up again =/

hmm both series sound like they are fun to read^^

if you like fantasy without the elves and hobbits read the stormcaller series (didnt read any further than the first book) i really liked the first book^^

Yes. Yes I am :D

I've had lotsa practice in breathing a bit of life into staggering forums. Step 1: Raise interesting old threads, is underway. Beginning Step 2 early: Start interesting new topics shall start soon. Step 3: Entice forum-goers into visitig regularly shall hopefully begin soon.

Stormcaller, you say? I'll have to have a looksee and see if they have a copy in my bookstore or library.

If someone wants another decent series to read, try checking out Poison Study and its' sequels, Magic Study and Fire Study. They're a bit cliched, but they're very well written. Admittedly, the romance is boring and hetero, but the rest of it makes up for it.

:/ I'm not trying to extend your list of books to read, just recommending some good books for anyone who wants to read some.

Also, I don't think this one will be busy enough for you to refresh it every ten minutes for ages. But visiting every day would help today, and soon enough, checking it every few hours should reveal a new post or two.

I have a wall of books. I made a fort out of them once. Then it fell on me when I tried to get my Harry Potter book out of the front wall.

Conclusion? Don't read Harry Potter.
