Liberal & Conservative

or These words do not mean what most people seem to think they mean!

This has been bugging me for a while and I wanted to get it posted before I forgot

Liberal and Conservative these terms were meant to describe the size and reach of government.
Liberal means big government with lots of oversight and regulations.
Conservative means small government...yeah you get the idea

The other stuff that gets mixed in is a lot of hot buttons and buzz words
I recently found myself thinking about my politics outside these things
mostly to find out where I really stood on the political spectrum

the big thing people are talking about now is the economy right?
well from what I've heard and read the problems now
was caused by lenders approving loans that they should not have been
this was indirectly attributed to the former presidents deregulation
this did get me thinking if the oversight had been enforced perhaps
things would not be so bad for us now

I began thinking about policemen if you take policeman off the street it makes it easier for people to break the law which they inevitably will. I see oversight
as a kind of watchdog detouring people from breaking the law.
you can't stop crime but you can stop criminals unless that criminal happens
to be Dick Cheney (buh dum tis)

so in the end I figured out I was right were I always assumed the far left.
huh.
Works for me!

well yes but also
liberal (literal definition) means a lot of something
when you use a liberal amount of salt while baking you don't measure it
you just use a lot of f***ing salt

the Result is a terrible cake but damn good government.
*nods sagely*

you have to admit that under the deregulation of industry under bush led in part to the current financial crisis.
and having more control over private industry is a cornerstone of big government.
but hey I'm still for capitalism. but I'm also for child labor laws... and antitrust laws... and a fair minimum wage.

Wow. Be careful. if you start speaking about politics. I may become violent... smile.gif
No, I am kidding.

Well, I think that a "wild" liberalism is not a good thing. The recent economic crisis is caused by people who were able to do whatever they wanted since they make money. They did ... it went wrong ... and here we are. I agree with you by saying if there were more regulaton it would not have happen.

I live in a place very open-mided about politics. So i heard and spoke a lot about that. and ...sorry if I shock some people.... I think that socialist and communist ideas have good parts IF they are applied in a good way. But until now no communist governement has succed. So liberlism seems to be the best way to lead a country. But socialism seems to be the real social defender. I say that because in France (sorry it is where i live) all the social realisations have been made by the socialist group. For exemple, i think about the legalization of the contraception or the PACS ( a law which for example  allows homosexual people to have the same rights than "legally married" people)...

But i think that I am not in the subject here...

I agree with you aout the policeman thing. I have noticed that more there are risks of criminal acts more there are policemen in the streets. But more tere are policemen less people will try to break the law so less policemen are needed. Right ?

Oh I think I spoke a lot of things but hich are not in the subject.

Communism itself is good stuff, but it is a fairy tale, people would take too long (if ever) to adapt to the idea that doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc. shouldn't make more than anyone else and vice versa.

Where I work, I deal with a lot of hardcore conservative people. I mean, these people are disgusting. Obama gets elected and everyone starts buying up guns and ammo, which is damn difficult to get these days because of it. Now, you'd like to hope that these people are just buying it because Obama might push some anti-gun laws and they'd like to get what they can while they can... but this ain't the case. A good portion of them are stockpiling this stuff because they are waiting for a revolution to start.

I used to think I could deal with the fact that people have differing opinions, but these people are disgusting. When Bush was re-elected, liberals started saying "I think I'm going to leave the country. When Obama was elected, conservatives said "We should separate from the union". (Note: I live in New York, this ain't a Red State) These people didn't give Obama one day in office before they started blaming him, screw that.

Bah, that was just me venting. Listening to these people day-in and day-out gets to you. I also realize that all conservatives aren't like this, but anyone I've met who admit to being conservative, are.

In the United States (and other places), we have to come to terms with the fact that our government will have complete turn-arounds every few years, but you can't go screaming about bloody revolution when it isn't your sides' turn.

That's because you're using the wrong organ for the wrong job. Brain thinks, stomach and intestinal tract digest. Also, text has very little nutritional value, although it is low in calories.

It's funny because in France there is an expresion which is "dévorer un livre". It means ltteraly "to devour a book" but in fact it means that the book is so fascinating that we want to read it as quick as possible. I don't know if there is the same expression in Englsh.

Anyway. It is interresting what you wrote about Barrack Obama because in France we (I mean a lot of people) was very happy that he was elected. I even heard some people said : "Look at the Americans. They have elected an African-American for the first time in their history. That's a great event. Now look at us (French), we elected a Smurf while we could have elected a woman for the first time in France."

It's strange but I think a lot of people reall respect Americans for having elected a Black man to the Presidency. And they are waiting a lot from him.

haha there is a dutch term for devouring a book ^^ means the same as in french ...... acctually i think it exists in quite a lot of languages(this has to be spelled wrong)

yea ppl over here where also where like w00t they have a black president!!!!

but i think ppl should wait and see wat happens and not be happy just because hes black
.... i mean progress i usually good but the man can still screw up.

and i think communism needs to be combined with anarchy to work ........ a friend of mine had the idea we should raise the next generation as communists and then kill everybody whos older than them ....... we agreed though that killing half the population would be bad.

You people have screwy morals.

I think the real test of acceptance will be if we ever elect another black president.

And you really need to stop eating books. All of that ink isn't good for you.

It depends on the brand of the ink. ;)

Durig the Paris pride I have seen some people with Obama's portrait. I think there is some French who would like that Americans lend him to us... I think I could agree with them.
